This bill would increase the penalties for causing wildfires. Currently, these offenses could be charged as either felonies or misdemeanors. This bill would make all violations of unlawfully causing a fire a felony, with a maximum fine of $10,000. It also clarifies that local agencies and school districts will not be required to reimburse the state for any costs associated with this change.
