Bill overview
This bill amends California’s workers’ compensation laws to provide greater protection for firefighters. Specifically, it expands existing presumptions that certain injuries, such as cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder, pneumonia, and tuberculosis, developed as a result of their work. Starting January 1, 2026, the bill extends these protections to active firefighting members of fire departments serving commercial airports, NASA installations, and U.S. Department of Defense facilities, in addition to existing coverage.
