Bill overview
This bill allows California to join the Social Work Licensure Compact, a multi-state agreement that streamlines the process for social workers to practice across state lines. Under the compact, social workers who are licensed in one participating state can obtain a ‘multistate license’ and practice in other member states without needing separate licenses in each location. The bill requires the California Board of Behavioral Sciences to comply with the compact’s rules and regulations, and it will become effective only after the Director of Consumer Affairs certifies that a majority of the board supports joining. This aims to improve access to social work services and reduce unnecessary licensing requirements.
