Bill overview
California Assembly Bill 455 addresses the issue of ‘thirdhand smoke,’ which refers to toxic chemicals left behind by tobacco smoke that can linger in homes for years. The bill requires sellers of single-family residential properties to disclose if they know of any residue from smoking or a history of smoking on the property. It also directs the Department of Toxic Substances Control to update its consumer guide to include information about thirdhand smoke and to delegate the update work to San Diego State University’s Center for Tobacco and the Environment.
