Bill overview
This bill updates California law to require landlords to provide functioning stoves and refrigerators in rental dwellings. Starting January 1, 2026, landlords must ensure these appliances are in good working order and safe to use. The bill also allows tenants and landlords to agree on alternative arrangements for refrigerators, and exempts certain types of housing, like permanent supportive housing, from these new requirements. Landlords are required to repair recalled appliances within 30 days of notification.
