Bill overview
This bill updates California law to ensure that all alcohol and other drug programs certified by the state meet or exceed established standards of care. Specifically, it requires the State Department of Health Care Services to adopt the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) treatment criteria, or an equivalent evidence-based standard, as the minimum standard for these programs. The bill also allows the department to use interim guidelines until formal regulations are adopted by January 1, 2027.
