Bill overview
This bill would allow California residents facing financial hardship, such as job loss, medical expenses, or natural disasters, to request a six-month deferment of their electrical or gas payments. To qualify, customers must be enrolled in energy assistance programs and submit a hardship request. After the deferment period, customers would need to enroll in a payment plan or arrearage management program. Subsequent deferrals would be restricted to within 18 months of the initial deferral.
