Bill overview
This bill expands the authority of peace officers in California to remove vehicles that don't meet certain criteria. Specifically, officers can now remove vehicles with fewer than four wheels that are powered by an electric motor and capable of exceeding 20 mph, or class 3 electric bicycles operated by individuals under 16. Local governments can charge fees for vehicle removal, seizure, and storage, and agencies must release the vehicle within 48 hours after costs are paid. Additionally, the agency may require completion of an electric bicycle safety course as a condition of vehicle release.
