Bill overview
This bill expands eligibility for California’s paid family leave program to allow workers to take time off to care for a ‘designated person,’ which is defined as any care recipient related by blood or whose association with the individual is equivalent to a family relationship. Starting July 1, 2028, individuals requesting benefits for the first time to care for a designated person will need to identify the person and attest to their relationship under penalty of perjury. The bill also makes conforming changes to existing definitions and requires an appropriation for these expanded benefits.
