Bill overview
This bill requires California’s juvenile justice commissions to conduct a survey every two years of youth held in county juvenile facilities to assess whether they are experiencing hunger or nutritional deficiencies. If the survey reveals a problem, the commission must recommend changes to county policies to address the issue, and the results and any subsequent actions taken by the county must be publicly posted on the commission’s and probation department’s websites. The bill also clarifies that counties are responsible for covering the costs of addressing youth hunger within these facilities.
