Bill overview
This bill aims to strengthen California’s commitment to ensuring everyone has access to healthy food. It amends existing law to specifically require that food distributed through state programs be locally grown and raised, in addition to being affordable and healthy. State agencies are tasked with incorporating this new priority into their policies, regulations, and grant criteria, and they must report on their progress to the legislature by 2027. The bill clarifies that it doesn't create new obligations for the state to provide food assistance.
