Bill overview
This bill would allow the Governor to temporarily suspend adjustments to the state’s motor vehicle fuel tax. Currently, the tax rate is adjusted annually based on the California Consumer Price Index. The Governor could suspend this adjustment if they determine it would place an undue financial burden on low- and middle-income families. The bill also clarifies that references in the law should be updated to reflect the transfer of tax administration duties from the State Board of Equalization to the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration.
