Overview
This bill, known as Leno’s Law, would expand California’s smog check exemption for older vehicles. Starting January 1, 2027, vehicles that are at least 35 model years old, manufactured before 1981, and identified as historical vehicles with collector motor vehicle insurance would be fully exempt from biennial smog checks. The exemption would expand to include vehicles one model year older each year for five years, beginning January 1, 2028.
