Bill overview
This bill amends California’s Political Reform Act to improve the reporting of ‘beshested payments’ – payments made at the request of public officials. It changes the reporting deadline from 30 days after a payment exceeds $5,000 to 30 days after the end of each calendar quarter, provided that payments from the same source reach $5,000 in that quarter. The bill also requires more detailed reporting on nonprofit organizations’ relationships with the official and any ongoing legal proceedings involving the official or the payment source, and allows for good faith estimates to be submitted if exact payment information cannot be obtained before the deadline.
