Overview
This bill changes the reporting requirements for ‘beshested payments’ – payments made at the behest of elected officials or Public Utilities Commission members – under California’s Political Reform Act. Instead of reporting when a payment exceeds $5,000, officials must now report when payments reach $1,000 in aggregate within a calendar quarter. The bill also requires more detailed information in the reports, including a description of any relationship between the payee (if a nonprofit) and the official or their family, and a description of any related legal proceedings. Officials can now submit good faith estimates if they cannot obtain exact payment information before the deadline.
