Overview
This bill changes how voter registration information is handled for elected officials and candidates. Currently, a county elections official must provide this information to candidates and others for various purposes. This bill exempts the residence address, telephone number, and email address of federal, state, or local elected officials and candidates from this disclosure requirement, except for journalistic and governmental purposes. It also requires the Secretary of State to provide a list of elected officials to county elections officials and mandates that county officials make this information confidential. The bill also includes provisions to ensure that elected officials and candidates can opt out of having their information made confidential and addresses how this information is handled when an official moves counties.
