WHEREAS, Maktab Tarighat Oveyssi (M.T.O.) Shahmaghsoudi, School of Islamic Sufism, is an international nonprofit organization that has distinguished itself through acts of community service, supporting disaster-response efforts, charitable works, interfaith dialogue, and learning initiatives; and
WHEREAS, M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi, with centers located throughout California, including the communities of Sacramento, Hillsborough, Fremont, Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Orange, through science, arts, and charity, encourages unity, engages in generous acts of kindness, and inspires hope in society; and
WHEREAS, M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi offers a welcoming space for the community, a place for education through weekly lectures and Tamarkoz meditation classes, also offered as academic courses at the University of California, Davis and the University of California, Berkeley, and cultural exchange through open houses; and
WHEREAS, M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi has long been active in the community with ongoing donations to local food banks, shelters, and women and children service centers to provide new clothing, hygiene supplies, and school and art supplies; and
WHEREAS, M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi volunteers, at the onset of COVID-19, assembled and donated tens of thousands of personal protective equipment, care kits, and stress-relieving programs to hospital staff and frontline heroes; and
WHEREAS, M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi has developed partnerships for environmental stewardship, including community river cleanups, sustainable gardening, distribution of free trees, and the use of clean and efficient sources of energy, such as solar panels, with several Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certified sites; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Assembly of the State of California, That the Assembly hereby commemorates September 30, 2025, as M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi Day, and recognizes the exceptional service, guidance, leadership, and teaching of Professor Nader Angha, Pir Oveyssi of M.T.O. Shahmaghsoudi; and be it further
Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Assembly transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
