Bill overview
This bill amends Tennessee law to clarify that judges, both sitting and retired, are authorized to carry handguns under the same conditions as law enforcement officers. Specifically, it updates the legal code to explicitly state that a judge must be authorized to carry a handgun according to existing Tennessee regulations. The bill removes language that previously granted judges special permission to carry weapons and replaces it with a clear statement of their existing rights. It will take effect on July 1, 2026.
