Bill overview
This bill allows Michigan taxpayers to automatically receive an extension to file their 2020 individual income tax returns until May 17, 2021. It also gives the Michigan Department of Treasury the authority to extend these deadlines further if the IRS extends the federal filing deadline. Importantly, taxpayers filing under this extension would not be charged interest or penalties. The bill responds to the IRS’s extension of the federal filing deadline due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
