Bill overview
This bill expands the powers and duties of the Legislative Corrections Ombudsman. It clarifies definitions related to the office and its work, including ‘administrative act,’ ‘complainant,’ and ‘qualified expert.’ The Ombudsman will have broader authority to investigate prisoner health and safety issues, correctional facility security, and other matters, and will be granted greater access to department information and records. The bill also requires the Ombudsman to submit an annual report to the legislature and council detailing their activities and findings.
