Overview
This bill changes the start dates for the terms of office for township officers in Michigan. Starting in 2025, the terms of all township officers will be four years long, with terms beginning at 12 noon on December 1st following the election, unless they were previously elected before January 1, 2025, in which case their terms will begin at 12 noon on November 20th. The bill also clarifies procedures for filling vacancies in township offices, including appointment by the township board and special elections when necessary.
Key provisions
- Township trustee terms elected in 1978 will be two years, becoming four years starting in 2025.
- All township officer terms will be four years, beginning December 1st following the election (except for those elected before January 1, 2025).
- Township officers must qualify before assuming office.

- The bill does not apply to the office of township constable.
