Bill overview
This bill creates a fund to help low-income Michigan residents afford their water bills. The ‘Low-Income Water Residential Affordability Fund’ will be supported by a monthly fee added to water bills, with the amount increasing over time. The money in the fund can be used to cover administrative costs, provide bill discounts or caps to eligible customers, pay past-due water bills, and fund water loss mitigation programs. The department of treasury will administer the fund and track its performance, reporting annually to the legislature.
