Bill overview
This bill clarifies the validity of marriages performed by certain individuals in Michigan. Specifically, it ensures that a marriage solemnized by a district judge, common pleas court judge, district court magistrate, municipal judge, judge of probate, a federal court judge, mayor, county clerk, or a designated county clerk employee (in counties with over 2 million residents) or a religious leader authorized to perform marriages, will not be considered void if the parties genuinely believed the marriage was legal. The bill is contingent on the passage of Senate Bill 285.
