Bill overview
This bill allows students in 11th grade to opt-out of taking the Workforce Readiness Assessment portion of the Michigan Merit Examination. Starting in the 2026-2027 school year, students can choose not to take this assessment, with the school district required to administer the complete exam in 12th grade if the student didn't take it in 11th. The Department of Technology, Management, and Budget will contract with providers to develop and score the exam, which includes English language arts, mathematics, reading, science, and a social studies component, ensuring alignment with state curriculum standards and national benchmarks.
