Bill overview
This bill requires doctors to prescribe naloxone, an opioid overdose reversal medication, alongside opioid prescriptions. It allows doctors to provide naloxone to patients at risk of overdose, their family or friends, and certain organizations that handle the medication. The bill also mandates that when an opioid prescription is written, a prescription for naloxone must be issued simultaneously, and clarifies responsibilities for dispensing and storage. Finally, it protects healthcare providers from liability related to the proper use and dispensing of naloxone.
