Bill overview
This bill changes the process for taking legal action when a public body violates the Open Meetings Act in Michigan. It expands the options for individuals to sue, allowing them to seek a court order (injunction) to force compliance or prevent further violations. Importantly, it also clarifies that successful plaintiffs in these lawsuits can recover their court costs and attorney fees under certain circumstances, particularly if the public body has a history of noncompliance or if the violation significantly harmed the public.
