Bill overview
This bill, the "Public Contract and Employment Eligibility Verification Act," requires state and local governments, as well as contractors working for them, to verify the legal work authorization of all new employees through the E-Verify system. Public employers must register and participate in E-Verify, and contractors must do the same to secure public contracts. Failure to comply can result in penalties, including contract termination and civil fines.
