Bill overview
This bill seeks to give local governments in Michigan the authority to implement rent control policies. It does this by repealing a 1988 law (PA 226) that previously restricted how local governments could regulate residential leases. Allowing local control would enable cities and counties to establish their own rules regarding rent increases and tenant protections. The bill will go into effect 90 days after it is signed into law.
