This bill amends Michigan’s workplace safety law to increase penalties for employers who fail to report employee deaths, particularly when the death occurs to an individual on a family farm. If an employer willfully fails to report a death that results in an employee’s death, and the death occurs on a family farm to the owner or a family member, the employer could face felony charges, including imprisonment. Additionally, civil penalties for reporting failures can be reduced if the death occurs on a family farm to the owner or a family member.
