Bill overview
This bill, the "Public Contract and Employment Eligibility Verification Act," requires state and local government employers and their contractors to verify the legal work authorization of all new employees through the E-Verify system. Contractors must also participate in E-Verify, and public employers must register and utilize the system. Failure to comply can result in contract termination and civil penalties, including fines and a one-year prohibition from contracting with public bodies.
