Bill overview
This bill changes the requirements for approving teacher preparation programs in Michigan. Starting September 30, 2027, programs must include instruction on dyslexia, its effects, and instructional adjustments for students with dyslexia. Additionally, programs preparing teachers in reading, language arts, special education, school psychology, mathematics, or science must consult with subject matter experts to ensure their curriculum meets specific standards. The Department of Education can issue waivers for some requirements, which will be reviewed every two years.
