Bill overview
This bill removes a requirement that driver’s licenses be tied to citizenship or legal presence in the United States. Currently, Michigan requires proof of citizenship or legal presence to obtain a driver’s license. This bill would eliminate that requirement, allowing individuals regardless of immigration status to apply for and receive a driver’s license. The bill amends several sections of the Michigan Vehicle Code to reflect this change.
