Bill overview
This law requires Michigan schools to offer a firearm safety curriculum to students in grades 6-12 by September 1, 2025. The curriculum will align with the Department of Natural Resources’ hunter education program and be taught by certified instructors. Schools can choose to offer the instruction as a regular class or an optional extracurricular activity, and students can opt-out without penalty. Successfully completing the course will fulfill the hunter safety requirement for obtaining a hunting license.
