Bill overview
This bill increases the penalties that employers can face for violating Michigan’s wage and hour laws. It allows the Department of Labor to order employers to pay outstanding wages and fringe benefits, along with a penalty of up to 100% annually on those amounts. Furthermore, the bill expands the possibility of awarding exemplary damages, up to three times the amount owed, and allows the department to recover attorney and hearing costs, as well as assess a civil penalty of up to $10,000.
