Bill overview
This bill changes the rules for when village officials in Michigan begin their terms of office. Starting December 31, 2024, all newly elected village officers must begin their terms at noon on December 1st following their election. If a village’s charter specifies a different start date for terms, the new law will apply, but only for elections after December 31, 2024. Additionally, any official filling a vacancy will need to take the oath of office after the election results are officially certified.
