Bill overview
The Safe Youth Sports Act aims to improve safety standards for youth sports programs in Michigan. It establishes ‘basic’ and ‘advanced’ standards that organizing entities must meet, including emergency action plans, background checks for coaches, and training on concussion management and first aid. The act also creates a grant program to help organizations comply with these standards, particularly those serving low-income communities. The Institute for the Study of Youth Sports will oversee the development and approval of these standards and training programs.
