Bill overview
This bill modifies Michigan law to expand the scope of practice for registered professional nurses (RPNs) who hold specialty certifications as nurse practitioners. Specifically, it clarifies that RPNs with these certifications can perform certain advanced nursing tasks, including diagnosing and treating illnesses, ordering and interpreting tests, and prescribing medications, under specific conditions. The bill also adds a new section to allow nurse practitioners to prescribe controlled substances under certain circumstances and clarifies delegation of prescribing authority for physicians. Finally, it updates definitions related to advanced practice registered nurses and complementary starter dose drugs.
