Bill overview
This bill modifies Michigan’s Motor Carrier Safety Act to adjust the minimum age requirement for operating a commercial motor vehicle (CMV). Currently, drivers must be 18 to transport intrastate property or passengers. This bill raises that age to 21 for transporting passengers, but maintains the 18-year-old requirement for transporting goods. It also clarifies requirements regarding medical waivers and grandfathered cards.
