Bill overview
This bill, the "Employee Family Health Privacy Act," prohibits employers in Michigan from making employment decisions – such as hiring, firing, or compensation – based on the health status of an employee’s family members. It also prevents employers from asking questions about family members’ health conditions, except for specific situations related to sick leave, family and medical leave, or health insurance claims. The bill protects employees from retaliation if they report a violation and allows them to sue for damages if they experience unfair treatment due to this law.
