Bill overview
This bill requires the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to create and make available a form summarizing a tenant’s rights. Landlords participating in the department’s rent vending program must certify their properties meet specific health and safety standards, including being free of communicable diseases and fit for habitation. The department can terminate a landlord’s participation if housing code violations are found, and tenants evicted due to this termination may seek significant financial compensation. Finally, the department must make the tenant rights form available on its website within 60 days of a related law taking effect.
