Bill overview
Senate Bill 43 aims to expand the role of Michigan law enforcement in supporting federal immigration enforcement efforts. It establishes a new program, the ‘Immigration and Customs Enforcement Support Act,’ that would require certain law enforcement agencies to assist ICE with identifying and transferring individuals who are not legally in the United States. The bill also creates a jail enforcement model and warrants service officer program, and mandates that agencies enter into agreements with the Department of Homeland Security to function as federal immigration agents.
