Bill overview
This bill requires Michigan schools to offer a firearm safety curriculum to students in grades 6-12 by June 1, 2025. The curriculum, developed in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources, must be at least 10 hours long and taught by certified hunter education instructors, covering topics like safe firearm handling and storage. Schools can offer this instruction as an optional class or integrate it into existing courses, and students can be excused from the instruction upon request without penalty. Successfully completing the course will also fulfill the hunter safety requirement for obtaining a hunting license.
