Bill overview
This bill requires Michigan schools and child care centers to install filtration systems to reduce lead levels in drinking water. Schools must develop and implement a plan to test water regularly and replace filters as needed. If lead is detected, specific actions must be taken, including shutting off the water source and notifying parents. Schools that have already tested their water and found no lead between January 24, 2022, and January 24, 2025, are exempt from the installation requirements, though they must continue to test every three years.
