Overview
This bill changes Alabama’s retirement laws to allow qualifying sheriffs to participate in both the supernumerary sheriff program and the Employees’ Retirement System. Currently, sheriffs could only choose one of these options. This legislation removes that restriction, permitting sheriffs who independently qualify for each program based on separate years of service to participate in both. The changes will take effect on October 29, 2026.
