Overview
This bill amends Alabama state law to clarify the role of a mayor in cities and towns with an even number of council members. Specifically, it allows the mayor to break tie votes on the city council, but only if the local governing body has previously passed a resolution authorizing this action. The bill also includes provisions for cities with populations between 12,000 and 25,000 to temporarily revert to the existing mayoral structure until their population reaches 25,000 or more.
