Overview
This bill changes how Alaskan electric utilities are held liable for damage caused by vegetation contacting their power lines. Generally, utilities won't be held responsible unless the vegetation is on their property or part of a wildland fire mitigation plan. The bill also requires electric utilities to create and regularly update wildland fire mitigation plans, outlining how they’ll manage vegetation to prevent wildfires and protect their equipment and neighboring properties. These plans must be approved by the Department of Natural Resources and include specific procedures for risk assessment and vegetation maintenance.
