Overview
This bill modifies Alaska’s laws regarding law enforcement services between the Department of Public Safety and municipalities. It allows state troopers, under contract with a municipality, to enforce municipal criminal ordinances. The bill also expands the general powers of municipalities, particularly regarding contracting and receiving grants from the Department of Public Safety. Furthermore, it establishes a reimbursement program for municipalities that contract with the Department of Public Safety for law enforcement services, based on the municipality’s population.
