Bill overview
House Bill 2045 makes it a crime to intentionally discharge a weapon from a moving vehicle at a person, another vehicle, or a building. If a vehicle is used in a drive-by shooting, it can be seized through forfeiture. Additionally, individuals convicted of this crime will have their driver’s licenses revoked for a period of at least one year, up to five years, and the court will forward a record of the conviction to the Department of Transportation. This bill clarifies the definition of ‘discharging a weapon from a motor vehicle’ to include the immediate area surrounding the vehicle.
