Bill overview
House Bill 2423 aims to encourage more students in grades six through eight to take advanced mathematics courses. If a student struggles in math based on assessments, their school must notify their parents about the deficiency and the support services available. Students who demonstrate high proficiency in math or have performed well on a district-aligned benchmark assessment may be automatically enrolled in an advanced math course, unless their parents object. The bill also requires schools to inform parents about the purpose and how to object to this automatic enrollment.
