Bill overview
Senate Bill 1141 modifies Arizona law regarding the selection of presidential electors. If a presidential candidate or vice-presidential candidate who won in Arizona dies, withdraws, or becomes incapacitated before the electors meet, the electors must choose their successor from that candidate’s political party. Electors who refuse to vote as instructed or are absent from the meeting are no longer eligible and their position is considered vacant, to be filled by the state party chair with a qualified replacement. The replacement elector’s nomination papers can be filed quickly after appointment.
